Useful Info

  • Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8848 meters above sea level.
  • Mount Everest lies in Nepal, it is also known as Sagarmatha ‘top of the world’ in the Nepali language, and ‘Chomolungma’ which means mother of the world’ in the Sherpa language.
  • Mt. Everest was first scaled by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary in the year 1953 AD.
  • Mt. Everest lies in Sagarmatha National Conservation Area which is the UNESCO natural world heritage site.
  • Trekkers can only trek up to the base camp of Mt. Everest which is 5364 meters, at this elevation we can observe the expedition group arranging for the summit to the top of Mt. Everest at 8848.86 meters.
  • Till the Base Camp of Mt. Everest we can trek using a normal trekking permit, but to summit the top of Mt. Everest we need a special permit and training.
  • Short Everest Trek is one of the easiest and shortest hikes into the Himalayas for the magnificent views of the long ranges of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest.
  • This 5-day short trek will take us to the highest elevation of 3880 meters for the magnificent views of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest.
  • This trek is the easiest and risk-free trek because of its lower elevation, so any age group of trekkers can enjoy the hike into the Himalayas.
  • The highest point for the overnight stay will be Namche Bazaar 3446 meters making it no risk of altitude sickness.
  • The easiest way to trek to the Everest region is to fly to Lukla from Manthali/Ramechap airport, which is around 3-4 drive from the main city of Kathmandu.
  • Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has issued a notice to all the airlines flying to Lukla that from October 2019, all the flights to and from Lukla will be commerce from Manthali airport which is in the Ramechap district, due to air traffic problems in Kathmandu airport, so now to all the trekkers and expedition group taking domestic flight will be operated from Manthali airport, this is only applicable to domestic flight not to the helicopter.
  • We can take a helicopter to and from Lukla airport via Kathmandu airport but not the normal domestic flight.
  • Normally trekking to Everest Base Camp starts from Lukla and ends at Lukla, keeping in mind the total trekking distance to be covered is 130 km in 11 days which includes two extra rest days for acclimatization one in Namche Bazaar and the other in Dingboche but Short Everest Trek itinerary is only to hike up to Singboche/Everest View and descend back to Lukla making it just 5 days trek.
  • A Short Everest Trek itinerary will help to complete the entire hike to the Everest Viewpoint Camp in just 5 days including 2 days descending to Lukla. These itineraries help to shorten the trek for trekkers who are busy with their tight schedules but are desperate to view the highest mountain, Mt. Everest.
  • The Short Everest Trek is a moderate hike into the Khumbu region one of the highest areas on earth.
  • Throughout the Short Everest hike, accommodations are attached-toilet, with different western and Asian cuisines but to the Everest Base Camp which is an 11-day trek, hotels and lodges will be of a normal standard to basic due to its remoteness and higher elevation.
  • The only living community in the Everest region is the Sherpa community, they are the aboriginals of the high Himalayas and follow Buddhism as their religion they are very friendly, loyal, and helpful.

Amazing EBC trek

I did a private EBC trek visiting Kala Patthar and Ama Dablam base camp with Discover Altitude in November 2024. The trip was fantastic and my guide Teju was amazing! Kumar and Santosh (owner of the agency and his colleague) are super friendly, they greet you at the airport and drop you off when you’re leaving, you get a detailed trip briefing before you leave. My guide Teju was very helpful and knowledgeable, he does the best practices about acclimating to altitude and keeping his clients healthy with constant reminders about proper clothing and using your buff to avoid dust. We got back to Kathmandu without the infamous Khumbu cough! Booking the private trek was a great option for me as I could customize my itinerary any way I wanted and go at the pace that worked for me.
I very highly recommend Discover Altitude, they’re an amazing team and reliable and knowledgeable partners in Nepal!

Amazing EBC and Kalapatthar Trek Experience with Discover Altitude

I recently completed the Everest Base Trek with Kalapatthar, guided by Discover Altitude, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. As a solo traveler, I felt well-supported and safe throughout the entire journey. Santosh, my guide, was exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The trek was challenging but incredibly rewarding, and the team’s professionalism made it even more memorable.
Highly recommend Discover Altitude for anyone looking to trek in Nepal

Your search for a trekking company can stop here!

I can’t say enough great things about Kumar and Santosh at Discover Altitude. They set my trip up with minimal notice, even made some custom changes and everything went perfectly. They have great connections for everything tourism in Nepal. If you want a guide to show you around Kathmandu-they’ve got you. If you want to go for a trek-it’s their bread and butter. If you want to go for an expedition at half the cost of western companies with guides whose experience will blow your mind-easy day. Whether you’re planning a trip for next year or next week they will take care of you like family. They took the time to have tea with me and discuss my trip from start to finish over a map, they held my luggage safely while I was in the mountains, and they checked in at possible friction points (like flights) to make sure everything was going well.

I’ve heard horror stories from backpackers who used other companies and there are a ton around here. It was overwhelming for me to pick one, but Discover Altitude was recommended to me so I figured I’d give them a try. This is now the second trip they planned for me. I also recommended them to some friends who did a luxury Everest view trip with them and had nothing but good things to say. You can roll the dice and try someone else, but if you want to take the safe bet and know that you’ll have an amazing trip at a competitive price there’s no other option.

Great EBC trip

With my friend, we did the Everest Base Camp 9-day trail. The experience was great, though quite intense - but we were well prepared. We saw all the peaks on the way and stayed in nice places with good views and rooms. The views on the way are really great - Amadablan, Everest, Lhotse...
It was a very mind-refreshing and inspiring trip - thanks to Rajesh, our guide, and Bala, our porter!

Everest Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp trek was an amazing experience! My guide, Bhakta, was excellent throughout the journey. He was very informative about the region. He allowed me to set my pace and lead the trek. He was always encouraging, even when the trek got challenging. I have enjoyed his company and learned a great deal about trekking in high altitude. I am grateful to have had such a wonderful human being as my sherpa. I highly recommend him as a guide.

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency.

I had the incredible opportunity to complete 4 different treks with Discover Altitude: Three Passes, ABC, Annapurna Circuit and Langtang. Each time, the experience exceeded my expectations! The owners, Kumar and Santosh, along with their guides are exceptionally professional, knowledgeable and attentive to every detail. Everything was very well planned for all treks, and I felt safe even at the highest altitudes, thanks to their friendly and supportive guides.

There are many agencies to choose from, and I visited many, but when I met Kumar and Santosh the quality of their personalities quickly became evident. They treated me as a friend they genuinely wanted to support, not just a client, caring only about the money. Even if I hadn’t signed up, they would have treated me the same, not as potential or lost business. This authenticity is why I chose them! This was the only agency where I had that gut feeling, which turned out to be correct. They always went the extra mile. Before each trek, they spent a lot of time going through all the details with me to ensure I had everything I needed and was ready to go. They also checked up on me along the way. During all these times, they truly became my friends!

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency. They are also very competitively priced for both solo and group trips! I cannot recommend them highly enough!

A short walk from Jomsom to Muktinath.

We had great dealings with Kumar and the team at Discover Altitude. Kumar was our initial contact, and Santosh was our day to day contact on-the-ground. Their communication was great, and everything went smoothly.

Before departing for Nepal, we emailed Kumar about what we had in mind, and he presented us with different options. We settled on a short trip from Jomsom to Muktinath - flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara and on to Jomsom the next day to commence our hike. (We took the same air-route in reverse on our way back.) In total, the trip was six or seven days, with three days hiking. (This worked out well due to our schedule, but next time we might spend a few more days walking.)

Our guide on the trip was Amar Magar. We really recommend him. (Ask for him by name!) He was thoughtful, organised, and provided clear information on what we were doing each day. His patience and pleasant manner made the trip really enjoyable.

The hike itself was good. The area from Jomsom to Kagbeni (where we stopped for the first night) was primarily along the road and the riverbed, and the scenery was primarily the dry and desolate scenery one might expect of the Mustang area. Kagbeni was a nice village to rest. (There are a number of tea houses, and an interesting temple where one of the monks showed us around.) The walk up to Muktinath the next day was a little bit tough - being a climb of about 1,000 meters. (Not 'technically' tough; more of a challenge due to low fitness levels!) After resting, we visited the Hindu pilgrimage site, which was quite an interesting experience as it attracts a lot of visitors. We stayed the night at a tea house in Muktinath, and then walked back to Jomsom via a different route, stopping at a village called Lupna on the way back. The route from Muktinath to Lupna was probably the highlight of our trip, with much more diverse terrain, including great alpine scenery, fantastic rocky cliffs and forests, and the picturesque village of Lupna itself, with a very old temple and some caves used for solitary retreats.

If you have limited time, then I would recommend the approach we took. It provides a glimpse of the Mustang region (without getting in to the Upper Mustang region, which requires more time and an expensive permit), and a taste of walking in the region. On our walk, we met a number of people who had walked the Annapurna Circuit, taking around two weeks. We might plan better and aim to do that next time!

In terms of practical considerations, noting it was mid-May, we found that we were able to walk in t-shirts and long pants. We carried a lot of warm clothing with us, but didn't need really it. (We were a bit cold briefly after arriving at Muktinath, but generally we didn't use our warm clothing. It would be smart to take something - but no need to take too much.) The bedding provided in the rooms was more than adequate, and we didn't need our own sleeping bags. (Taking a sleeping bag liner might suffice from a cleanliness perspective if this is a concern.)

FAQs

Q1. What is different between Everest Base Camp Trek and Short Everest Trek?

Everest Base Camp Trek or EBC Trek is 11 days trek (can shorten or extend) that starts from a moderate hike too strenuous leading us all the way to the very base camp of Mt. Everest.

On the other hand, Short Everest Trek is a moderate hike into the Everest region leading us a maximum of 3880 meters for the magnificent views of the mighty Himalayas including Mt. Everest.

EBC trek is reaching the base camp of Mt. Everest which is 5364 meters but is a bit challenging whereas Short Everest Trek is an easy trek for any age group, this is less time consuming and relaxing trek to have a magnificent view of Mt. Everest and its surrounding ranges.

Q2. Who can trek Short Everest Trek?

Any age group or gender can do Short Everest Trek; it is one of the easiest treks into the Khumbu/Everest region of Nepal for the magnificent close-range views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest.

The trek will lead us to a maximum of 3446 meters but the overnight stay will be at the elevation of 3880 meters, this makes the trek free from any form of altitude sickness and danger for a layman trekker.

Q3. Is there Wi-Fi and electricity facility in Short Everest Trek?

Yes, WiFi and electricity are available in all the hotel and lodges in the entire trek. We can charge our mobile or other electronic gadgets if necessary.

Short Everest Trek is a luxurious way to explore the Khumbu region of Nepal with modern facilities all the way from food to toilet, from purified water to ATM’s and from modern restaurants to dance bars.

Q4. Which is the best way to explore Mt. Everest?

Everest is one of the highest mountains on the earth, it is a dream for thousands of adventurous lovers but the dream to explore and witness the highest mountain can be done in two ways.

The first and easiest way to have a close range of Mt. Everest is to take a mountain flight from Kathmandu airport, which is an hour flight and the other way is to trek from Lukla to the possible place to explore Mt. Everest which can be Namche Bazaar or all the way to the Everest Base Camp.

It depends upon the trekkers which way to choose depending upon the time schedule of your stay in Nepal and also the willpower to hike.
