Every year hundreds of trekkers are evacuated from the Everest region due to their hectic itinerary, shading all their dreams of reaching one of the most deserved places to be because of fast altitude gain.

This is due to their busy schedule or being fast enough in ascending high altitudes. Trekkers should know how to acclimatize their body to the altitude, as you ascend higher the layer of oxygen decreases causing different problems in the body and finally they end up with their dream of reaching the base camp of Mt. Everest. Here, we have kept this in mind and our camp for overnight is well-balanced and shorter which gives the high possibility for your body to acclimatize to the altitude.

Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the popular global-ranking trekking destinations for trekkers, this is one of the most visited regions in the Himalayas. For experienced trekkers, Everest Trek is just a 9-day itinerary starting from Kathmandu and ending up in Kathmandu. However, for first-time trekkers, we recommend having at least a couple of days extra to acclimatize and make it a 12-day Trek.

Trekkers heading to Mount Everest Base Camp will be stunned by the beauty of nature and the age-old culture of the Sherpa People. The first-day trek starts with a stunning flight to Lukla, which is one of the most thrilling airports on earth.

Surrounded by the beautiful Himalayas, the Lukla Airport, also known as the Tenzing Hillary Airport is exciting to land.

Further from Lukla, the trail will take you close to nature with the diverse vegetation of the Himalayas, encountering wild animals, Himalayan birds, and different alpine vegetation.

Upon reaching Namche Bazaar (5-Day) which is the administrative headquarters of the Everest region or the Khumbu region. Trekkers can enjoy nature and modern facilities available there, including different bars, bakeries, ATMs, banks, hospitals,s, etc.Namche Bazaar is the only well-equipped town with more accessible facilities for local people and trekkers in need.

As you ascend from Namche Bazaar you will be passing by lush green vegetation and entering into the bare Himalayan region with a clear view of the enchanting Himalayas which includes Mt Thamserku(6623m), Mt. Ama Dablam(6812), Mt. Lhotse(7600m), Mt. Nuptse(7879m) and of course Mt. Everest(8848.86m) and many more.

From Gorekhshep the last and the highest overnight camp of the entire trek, you will hike to the Everest Base Camp to step your feet to one of the highest base camps on the earth.

The trail to Mt. Everest Base Camp is an easy-going uphill into the Himalayas as the local, government, and concerned authority of the Khumbu region keep their eyes open to maintain the trail so that trekkers and the expedition group heading towards the Himalayas are safe in their entire journey into the Everest region.

These 17 days of Everest Base Camp Trek will help all levels of trekkers to complete their once-in-a-lifetime dream of reaching the summit point at the base of Everest in a more relaxing way. However, if you still have time limitations, you can descend through Helicopter back to Kathmandu or Lukla from the Base Camp. This will take around 3 days, which means trekking into the base camp and flying back to Kathmandu.

The best way to accomplish the Everest Trek is only through maintaining the trekking distance where the oxygen is thinner and acclimatizing is necessary for the places where the risk factor is high for encountering any sort of breathing problem because, above the altitude of 4100 meters, oxygen gets thinner.

No matter how short the distance is compared to other trekkers, you will be utilizing your leisure time exploring the surrounding hill, as we believe ‘hike higher and sleep lower’ is the best way to trek into the Himalayas.

Furthermore, the panoramic view from Everest View Hotel, Nagarjun Hill, and Kalapatthar will be the best which many trekkers miss due to the hectic schedule of their trekking itinerary.

view from Kalapatthar

Discover Altitude has experienced numerous such incidents over the last 18 years, keeping all this in mind we feel immense pleasure to introduce Everest Base Camp for Senior Citizens or Everest Base Camp for beginners which is a 17-day itinerary into the Himalayas that maintains all the risk factors apart so that the dream of every trekker to be into the base of the top of the world fulfilled.

If the above-mentioned program doesn't match your time limitation and interest, a possible option for the Everest region treks can be Namche Bazaar Trek, Best Everest Base Camp Panoramic Trek, and Trek into Everest Base Camp and Fly Out, please feel free to customize the trek according to your concern and curiosity, we will help to rearrange accordingly.

IS THE EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK DOABLE FOR SENIOR CITIZEN

Everest Base Camp Trek is easily accessible for Senior Citizens in a more comfortable way when one follows the Senior Citizen Itinerary. Instead of following the REGULAR ITINERARY, for Senior Citizens, we recommend adding a couple of days extra.

This extra day will help to shorten the distance for seniors to cover, providing sufficient time and the hike will be at a nominal pace. Further, this will also help your body to acclimatize to the high altitude. Thus, if one follows the senior citizen program for the Everest Trek, then one can easily reach the Base Camp of Mount Everest comfortably.

Throughout the trail, we will be encountering different animals and Himalayas birds.

On reaching the top point of the hill, trekkers will have a beautiful view of the Himalayas. Further, we descend towards a small village called Phunke Tenga which will take us a couple of hours.

The trail descending towards Phunke Tenga will be lush green vegetation and the Dhud Koshi river flowing from the Himalayas.

Passing by the river and lush vegetation, we climb uphill through a well arrange trail to reach Tangboche.

Tangboche is a bit busy village with multiple hotels around, as the place is an overnight camp for all the trekkers but during the winter the region is covered with snow.

On the way, we can visit the Tangboche monastery which is one of the biggest monasteries in the entire Khumbu region.

From this day our hike will be lower distance and the altitude we gain will also be low because maximum altitude sickness occurs between Dingboche to Gorekshep.

This area is also known as a risk factor zone for first-time trekkers. So to avoid risk we are making this two-day camp from Dingboche to Gorekshep into a three-day camp.

From Dingboche we hike uphill around 200 meters to Thukla, the trail is fair enough inclined uphill. Passing by postural land, we will encounter wild Himalayan animals and birds.

With the majestic view of the snow-covered Himalayas and bare mountains, we will reach Thukla, a small village with some lodges. Thukla also known as a Dughla lies at an altitude of 4620 meters and is below the Lobuche.

Trekkers to avoid risk-factor prefer to stay overnight or descend when altitude sickness occurs in Lobuche. Afternoon we can explore the village and climb the surrounding hill to acclimatize.

Lobuche is one of the most famous overnight camps for trekkers into Everest Base Camp, is so due to its difficulty to reach, as trekkers with restricted time are forced to trek from Dingboche to Lobuche a one-day camp, and trekking all the way takes around 8 hours but to avoid difficulty we will be hiking from Thukla to Lobuche, thus making it more easy and relaxing.

The trail from Thukla to Lobuche is the entire way uphill climb through the rocks of the Himalayas. As we are now heading towards around 5000 meters, the mountains are bare and windy.

We pass by tombstones, which have been erected in respect to all trekkers and climbers who died in the Everest region. Spending some time to show respect to the departed soul we hike further uphill with the majestic view of Thokla Pass and Khumbu Glacier.

This needs to be an easy hike because as we hike we need to make sure our body is acclimatizing to the high altitude. Upon our arrival in Lobuche, we can explore this bit of busy camp, and in the afternoon we can spend some free time further ascending from Lobuche.

(Note: To make sure you are in one of the most dreamlands for trekkers which is Everest base Camp. Our well-experienced guide will do his best.

To make this happen Discover Altitude will arrange a sufficient option for our valuable clients. If you feel difficulty in hiking, upon request we can arrange a horse to take you to Lobuche.

This horse ride is not included in the package, so upon paying some extra, your guide will help arrange this.)

Day 10:Hike to Gorekshep (5140m/16864ft) – excursion to Everest Base Camp- 8 hours.
  • Accommodation Tea-House
  • MealsBreakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Time8 Hours
  • Maximum Altitude5364m/17598ft

A bit busy day for all trekkers, from Lobuche to Gorakshep is around 3 hour's hike which is our overnight camp as well but further, we need to hike to Everest Base Camp which will take around 4 hours two-way from Gorakshep.

Today our hike starts from Lobuche passing by Lobuche Glacier to our left-hand side and Khumbu Glacier to our right-hand side.

This will be the most exciting journey because of the panoramic view of the majestic Himalayas and also to reach Everest Base Camp.

Upon reaching Gorekshep we check into our hotel, carrying a sufficient amount of water we will hike to Everest Base Camp to be at the base of Mt. Everest.

This will be more exciting because from Gorekshep we will be hiking further 200+ meters to make our bodies acclimatize.

Spending some free time with the picturesque view of the Himalayas we descend towards Gorekshep the last village of the Himalayas for our overnight stay.

(Note: Today we have open options for our trekkers to make their journey easygoing with their health.

  • If you are uncomfortable with the altitude, you can take a horse ride from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp making Gorekshep your lunch spot and descending towards Lobuche.
  • If you are uncomfortable trekking to Everest Base Camp due to altitude or physical condition, we can take a horse ride from Gorekshep to Everest Base Camp and vice-versa.

This will be determined by the situation and physical condition. Your well-experienced guide will provide multiple options)

Day 11:Hike to Kalapatthar (Optional) and descend towards Pheriche (4252m/13950ft)- 7 hours.
  • Accommodation Tea-House
  • MealsBreakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Time7 Hours
  • Maximum Altitude5545m/18192ft

This will be an early morning day for us, from Gorekshep we start our early morning hike to reach Kalapatthar (Optional) which is the highest altitude of the entire trek. Kalapatthar (5545M) is a famous hill station for its magnificent views of the Himalayas.

This is a 360° panoramic viewpoint of the Everest region. To speak the truth the views from Kalapatthar are far better than Everest Base Camp.

We start our early morning Kalapatthar hike before sunrise because the first ray of the sun falling upon the mighty Himalayas is never to be missed. This will be a 400+ meters climb uphill to Kalapatthar making it a bit more difficult than Everest Base Camp.

After enjoying the picturesque view we descend towards our camp Gorekshep for breakfast and further descend towards Pheriche. From today our entire itinerary will be descending so we don’t need to be worried about acclimatizing our body.

Upon reaching Pherihe we can spend free time accordingly or can descend further according to your interest, we can be flexible while descending to avoid staying in the same spot. This depends upon the client’s interest.

(Note: If our clients don’t want to miss the picturesque view from Kalapatthar or if they don’t want to miss being at the highest altitude of the Everest region trek but are not physically fit for the hike to Kalapatthar.

Your guide will help arrange a horse ride halfway to Kalapatthar because of the steep climb riding a horse to Kalapatthar is not suggested.)

Day 12:Descend towards Khunjuma (3750m/12303ft)- 6 hours.
  • Accommodation Tea-House
  • MealsBreakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Time6 Hours
  • Maximum Altitude(3750m/12303ft)

Now we divert our trail from Pheriche and descend to Phunke Tenga. The trail will be easygoing but different from the one we used while ascending uphill from Dingboche.

Passing by the different landscapes and postural land, the visibility of alpine vegetation will welcome us.

Descending towards Khenjuma will be exciting there are stone walls on the way, further crossing a bridge over a river we will be near Orsho to meet our old trail which we followed while ascending.

From Orsho we pass by Somare, Pangboche, Dedoche, and Tengboche villages before reaching Khunjuma for our overnight camp.

Day 13:Descend towards Monjo (2835m/9301ft)- 6 hours.
  • Accommodation Tea-House
  • MealsBreakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Time6-7 Hours
  • Maximum Altitude2835m/9301ft

From Khunjuma the trail will be easy going with lush green vegetation with the views of massif Himalayas until Namche Bazaar.

Before descending towards Namche we can stop for some pictures of the mighty Himalayas and the capital town of the Khumbu region which is Namche Bazar.

Enjoying our lunch at Namche Bazaar we descend towards Monjo passing by Sagarmatha National Park headquarters.

Monjo is a small but beautiful Sherpa village, a great choice to stay overnight in a peaceful environment by the Monjo River in an evergreen environment.

Day 14:Descend to Lukla (2840m/9318ft)- 5 hours.
  • Accommodation Tea-House
  • MealsBreakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Time5 Hours
  • Maximum Altitude2840m/9318ft

This will be our last trekking day in the Everest region. The trail will be the same as we followed uphill, passing by green vegetation and crossing the suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River we descend towards Lukla through Phakding.

Afternoon we can explore Lukla and observe the world's most dangerous airport. Visiting Lukla will be exciting as this little town is well equipped with modern facilities and some bars and discos to bid farewell to your Sherpa potters for their support and help in the entire trek.

Accommodation in Kathmandu :

Trekkers will be spending 2 nights in one of the 3-star hotels in Thamel, which is a prime location for ATMs, Banks, Shopping complexes, Hospitals, Shops, Restaurants, Bars, Coffeeshops, and other recreation facilities available in and around Thamel.

Your hotel will have access to roof-top views of the Kathmandu Valley and Himalayas and breakfast will be served free.

Flight to Lukla Airport :

Lukla is the gateway to the Everest or Khumbu region of Nepal. Every day there are direct flights from Kathmandu to Lukla which is a 30-minute flight (early in the morning).

Lukla airport lies on a mountainous cliff, it has a narrow and short runway, so only small domestic flights that require specially trained pilots are allowed to fly Lukla due to its complex location.

Due to its location in the mountains, flights to Lukla are dependent upon the weather conditions of the mountain. So, having a reserve day extra is always recommended before your final departure.

However, there are groups joining helicopter services as well but you have to pay some extra for using helicopters. Your one-way flight fare will be deducted if the flight does not fly due to weather.

Everest Base Camp Trail :

Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most famous trekking destinations for trekkers, hikers, and climbers as well. During high season the trail is busy with trekkers going into the Himalayas and descending back.

This makes the central government, local government, and concerned tourism authority maintain the trial. Moreover, Sherpa people live in the Himalayas, several villages are making it local to travel to and fro frequently.

So the trails are well-maintained but in some places, we may not be able to see boards with the direction of the trail due to heavy snowfall and wind.

Accommodation during the trek :

Accommodation in the Everest region is nominal but touristic, as the region is busy with tourists so hotels and lodges are well maintained with all the available facilities like a hot shower, Wifi, electricity, etc.

Till Namche Bazaar there is a sufficient amount of attached-bathroom rooms available but as we ascend from Namche Bazaar hotels and lodges are basic with all the facilities.

As we climb higher trekkers have to use twin sharing rooms with two single beds in each room but they are well equipped with all the facilities such as Wi-Fi, hot shower, electricity, etc.

Food during the Everest Base Camp Trek :

Hygienic food is a very important component of the entire journey to Everest. Hotels and lodges in the Everest region have well-trained cooking staff, they receive special training from concerned government authorities frequently.

This makes them gain knowledge to maintain the quality of food for the trekkers, they are experts in cooking all the foodstuff available in their menu card which is local, Indian, continental, Chinese, Italian, and Pizza, the burger is only some to mention here.

So nothing to worry about regarding the food in the Everest region, your cooks know how to arrange special hygienic food for the trek.

food in everest trek

Drinking Water during the Everest Base Camp Trek :

Drinking water is accessible throughout the entire trek in the Everest region. Trekkers are mainly not used to normal water, so it is suggested better to use water purifying tablets which our agency Discover Altitude provides free of cost, or use a bottled purified tablet which can be refilled in every hotel and lodge by paying a certain amount of money.

Now in a couple of places on Everest locals have established a safe drinking project, they used Western technology to treat water to make trekkers easy to drink. This water can be found in every hotel and lodge on the trail. Moreover, hot boiled water can also be refilled upon request by paying a certain amount of money.

Only you need to carry a water bottle to refill, as the Everest region prefers preserving nature through the nominal use of trash.

Is Acclimatization necessary :

Acclimatization is the key to a successful trip to high altitudes. Normally we suggest trekkers acclimatize in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, this helps the body to take a break and also to acclimatize with the surrounding environment.

As we ascend higher the layer of oxygen gets thinner, acclimatization helps our body to cope with the forthcoming environment.

Acclimatization simply doesn’t mean taking rest, during the day after breakfast it is suggested better to climb some 100 meters uphill for a couple of hours. This will make our bodies flexible for the entire trek with the environment. A key to a successful trek in the Himalayas is to ‘Trek higher and sleep lower’.

Fitness level for Everest Base Camp Trek :

porter carrying supplies

Trekking into Everest Base Camp is easy-going at high altitude, this will be a difficult trek due to the number of days, altitude, rough terrain, and steep ascend.

Overall, there is nothing required of physical condition for the Everest trek but we suggest trekkers maintain their physical health through exercise and a balanced diet before the trek. This will help trekkers to continue 3-5 hours trek every day.

Everest Base Camp's 19-day itinerary will help all level trekkers before their experience to complete the trek because this will be an easy-going 4-hour hike per day.

This will be at a nominal pace into high altitudes. If you are suffering from some respiratory or heart problems, we better suggest consulting your doctor before you book this trip.

Apart from beginners and senior citizens if you have enough confidence in your physical level and are in regular exercise which may be indoor or outdoor. They can complete the trek in around 12 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu.

Amazing EBC and Kalapatthar Trek Experience with Discover Altitude

I recently completed the Everest Base Trek with Kalapatthar, guided by Discover Altitude, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. As a solo traveler, I felt well-supported and safe throughout the entire journey. Santosh, my guide, was exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The trek was challenging but incredibly rewarding, and the team’s professionalism made it even more memorable.
Highly recommend Discover Altitude for anyone looking to trek in Nepal

Your search for a trekking company can stop here!

I can’t say enough great things about Kumar and Santosh at Discover Altitude. They set my trip up with minimal notice, even made some custom changes and everything went perfectly. They have great connections for everything tourism in Nepal. If you want a guide to show you around Kathmandu-they’ve got you. If you want to go for a trek-it’s their bread and butter. If you want to go for an expedition at half the cost of western companies with guides whose experience will blow your mind-easy day. Whether you’re planning a trip for next year or next week they will take care of you like family. They took the time to have tea with me and discuss my trip from start to finish over a map, they held my luggage safely while I was in the mountains, and they checked in at possible friction points (like flights) to make sure everything was going well.

I’ve heard horror stories from backpackers who used other companies and there are a ton around here. It was overwhelming for me to pick one, but Discover Altitude was recommended to me so I figured I’d give them a try. This is now the second trip they planned for me. I also recommended them to some friends who did a luxury Everest view trip with them and had nothing but good things to say. You can roll the dice and try someone else, but if you want to take the safe bet and know that you’ll have an amazing trip at a competitive price there’s no other option.

Great EBC trip

With my friend, we did the Everest Base Camp 9-day trail. The experience was great, though quite intense - but we were well prepared. We saw all the peaks on the way and stayed in nice places with good views and rooms. The views on the way are really great - Amadablan, Everest, Lhotse...
It was a very mind-refreshing and inspiring trip - thanks to Rajesh, our guide, and Bala, our porter!

Everest Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp trek was an amazing experience! My guide, Bhakta, was excellent throughout the journey. He was very informative about the region. He allowed me to set my pace and lead the trek. He was always encouraging, even when the trek got challenging. I have enjoyed his company and learned a great deal about trekking in high altitude. I am grateful to have had such a wonderful human being as my sherpa. I highly recommend him as a guide.

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency.

I had the incredible opportunity to complete 4 different treks with Discover Altitude: Three Passes, ABC, Annapurna Circuit and Langtang. Each time, the experience exceeded my expectations! The owners, Kumar and Santosh, along with their guides are exceptionally professional, knowledgeable and attentive to every detail. Everything was very well planned for all treks, and I felt safe even at the highest altitudes, thanks to their friendly and supportive guides.

There are many agencies to choose from, and I visited many, but when I met Kumar and Santosh the quality of their personalities quickly became evident. They treated me as a friend they genuinely wanted to support, not just a client, caring only about the money. Even if I hadn’t signed up, they would have treated me the same, not as potential or lost business. This authenticity is why I chose them! This was the only agency where I had that gut feeling, which turned out to be correct. They always went the extra mile. Before each trek, they spent a lot of time going through all the details with me to ensure I had everything I needed and was ready to go. They also checked up on me along the way. During all these times, they truly became my friends!

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency. They are also very competitively priced for both solo and group trips! I cannot recommend them highly enough!

A short walk from Jomsom to Muktinath.

We had great dealings with Kumar and the team at Discover Altitude. Kumar was our initial contact, and Santosh was our day to day contact on-the-ground. Their communication was great, and everything went smoothly.

Before departing for Nepal, we emailed Kumar about what we had in mind, and he presented us with different options. We settled on a short trip from Jomsom to Muktinath - flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara and on to Jomsom the next day to commence our hike. (We took the same air-route in reverse on our way back.) In total, the trip was six or seven days, with three days hiking. (This worked out well due to our schedule, but next time we might spend a few more days walking.)

Our guide on the trip was Amar Magar. We really recommend him. (Ask for him by name!) He was thoughtful, organised, and provided clear information on what we were doing each day. His patience and pleasant manner made the trip really enjoyable.

The hike itself was good. The area from Jomsom to Kagbeni (where we stopped for the first night) was primarily along the road and the riverbed, and the scenery was primarily the dry and desolate scenery one might expect of the Mustang area. Kagbeni was a nice village to rest. (There are a number of tea houses, and an interesting temple where one of the monks showed us around.) The walk up to Muktinath the next day was a little bit tough - being a climb of about 1,000 meters. (Not 'technically' tough; more of a challenge due to low fitness levels!) After resting, we visited the Hindu pilgrimage site, which was quite an interesting experience as it attracts a lot of visitors. We stayed the night at a tea house in Muktinath, and then walked back to Jomsom via a different route, stopping at a village called Lupna on the way back. The route from Muktinath to Lupna was probably the highlight of our trip, with much more diverse terrain, including great alpine scenery, fantastic rocky cliffs and forests, and the picturesque village of Lupna itself, with a very old temple and some caves used for solitary retreats.

If you have limited time, then I would recommend the approach we took. It provides a glimpse of the Mustang region (without getting in to the Upper Mustang region, which requires more time and an expensive permit), and a taste of walking in the region. On our walk, we met a number of people who had walked the Annapurna Circuit, taking around two weeks. We might plan better and aim to do that next time!

In terms of practical considerations, noting it was mid-May, we found that we were able to walk in t-shirts and long pants. We carried a lot of warm clothing with us, but didn't need really it. (We were a bit cold briefly after arriving at Muktinath, but generally we didn't use our warm clothing. It would be smart to take something - but no need to take too much.) The bedding provided in the rooms was more than adequate, and we didn't need our own sleeping bags. (Taking a sleeping bag liner might suffice from a cleanliness perspective if this is a concern.)

Mustang - Kagbeni, Muktinath 6-day tour

We chose a 6-day course that tours Kagbeni and Muktinath, the gateway to Mustang from Kathmandu. It takes 3 days to actually walk, so it's a safe course even for beginners.

Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (30-minute flight), then hike 3 hours to Kagbeni. Hike 5-6 hours to Muktinath. Return to Jomsom via a different route. Take a lunch break at Rupna on the way. Fly to Pokhara. Fly back to Kathmandu.

It was late May before the rainy season, but we were blessed with clear skies and were able to see the beautiful mountain ranges of Nilgiri and Annapurna. The desolate landscape of Mustang was very beautiful, and it was a very interesting experience to get a glimpse of the life of the villagers in Kagbeni.

It was quite hot during the daytime walks in late May. Short sleeves are fine. If you don't want to get sunburned, wear thin long sleeves. Since it gets cold in the mornings and evenings in Muktinath, I wore a light down jacket, but if you layer up a warm long sleeve jacket, you can wear a hiking jacket instead of a down jacket.

Our trekking guide, Amar, was very kind and not only guided us on hiking but also carefully explained the history and people's lives. (In English) He always took care to make the trek comfortable, and the walking pace was adjusted to suit our physical strength, so we were able to enjoy it without any strain.

Kumar handled advance reservations and questions, and he responded to emails very quickly. After arriving in Kathmandu, I visited the office and Kumar gave me a brief explanation of the schedule. In Kathmandu, Santosh handled my communications and accompanied me to the transfer between the hotel and the airport. Both of them were cheerful and kind.
During the tour, I asked to change my plan to stay in Pokhara for two nights after the trek (of course, the additional hotel fee was at my own expense), and I am grateful that he quickly and readily responded to my request, such as changing my flight on the return trip.

FAQs

Q1. How many days does it take for Everest Base Camp Trek?

Thanks to Lukla Airport for making the Everest Base Camp much shorter. To start Everest Base Camp Trek, trekkers first need to be in the Lukla a gateway to the entire Everest region, this is a 30-minute flight from the Kathmandu airport.

Now if we count the number of days required for the Everest Base Camp Trek from Kathmandu, it is a 9-day trek. However, the best and easy way to accomplish Everest Base Camp Trek is in 12-Day from Kathmandu to Kathmandu.

Moreover, there are multiple Everest Trek Packages with multiple days depending upon the trekkers' interest, fitness level, and timeframe.

Q2. How safe is to trek Everest Base Camp?

Everest Base Camp is one of the most popular trekking destinations for trekkers around the globe. This popularity has made trekkers flourish every year in thousands.

Due to its popularity government of Nepal has maintained the trail and there are army checkpoints to keep records of the trekkers and to evacuate them in times of danger and also a hospital for basic treatment of altitude sickness and other treatments.

All these efforts from the concerned authority have made Everest Trek a safe destination.

Q3. How hard is it to trek Everest Base Camp?

To speak the truth Everest Base Camp Trek is hard but not impossible. This is a Moderate to Strenuous hike into the Himalayas. Its difficulty is calculated due to the number of days, distance to travel, and the altitude, other factors are nothing to worry about.

If trekkers are physically fit with some regular exercise prior to the trek, Everest Base Camp Trek can be completed in a short span of time.

Mainly trekkers need to know how to maintain the pace while being in the Everest region and they should be well prepared to wear Trekking boots and carry a backpack for the same number of days. If so follow the base camp of Mt. Everest is at your feet.

Q4. Do I need some experience or training for Everest Base Camp Trek?

Experience and training will add extra benefits for any trek around the world and Everest Trek can’t be an exception. If the trekker does some regular exercise for some 2-3 months prior to the trek, this will benefit their entire trek.

Physical exercises such as hiking, summing, cycling, and regular walking with a backpack will help trekkers maintain their pace and also control their breathing in the Himalayas adding extra immune system for the trek.

Q5. Which month of the year is best for Everest Base Camp Trek?

Everest Base Camp can be trekked throughout the year but June and July are regarded as monsoon season, sometimes heavy rainfall in the hilly and plain areas of Nepal causing floods and landslides.

But regarding the Everest region, you don’t experience such calamities due to its altitude but below Namche Bazaar you can experience rainfall.

During monsoon, we don’t suggest trekkers hike to Everest Base Camp because the views are not encouraging and sometimes make it worst even to see the Himalayas.

Trekkers can experience Everest Base Camp Trek from Mid- August to Mid- May. Apart from all this late September-October and November and February- March- April and Mid-May are the best time of the year for Everest Base Camp Trek with more visibility and clean and clear sky. December and January are winters in Nepal, this time of the year experience snowfall in the trekking routes of the Himalayas but you can trek.

Q6. How expensive is to trek Everest Base Camp?

Everest Base Camp Trek is a bit expensive trek as compared to other trekking destinations of Nepal like the Annapurna region or Langtang region trek. Mainly the rise in price for the Everest trek is due to its remoteness and two-way domestic flight.

Apart from all these, the required number of days also determines the price for Everest Base Camp Trek.

If trekkers choose a local trekking agency for Everest Base Camp Trek, the price becomes fare enough to afford which is around 1300 USD this includes two-way domestic flights, accommodation, three-time meals, trekking permits, a guide, and a porter as well.

Above all the cheapest way to trek Everest Base Camp is to join a group, this helps to share your guide and porter, making it goes cheaper. Another way to reduce the price for the Everest Base Camp Trek is to decrease the number of days, as the number of days required for the trek is 12- days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu but you can make it 9-Day Trek from Kathmandu to Kathmandu.

This may be a bit risky as sometimes due to unfavorable weather conditions Lukla flights are cancelled. In this case, having some extra days will help maintain the international flight back home.

Apart from the packages for the Everest Base Camp Trek, trekkers have to pay for their drinks, Wifi, hot shower, and charging electronic gadgets. If you buy a bottle of drinking water it cost you around 2-4 USD depending upon the altitude and it is similar to Wifi, hot showers, and charging electronic gadgets.

So better to use water purifying tablets to avoid the price going higher. Normally in lower altitudes Wifi, hot showers, and charging batteries are free but this may not happen always.

Q7. Can we see Mount Everest from Everest Base Camp?

Everest Base Camp lies at an altitude of 5364 Meters (17598ft), this is the base of Mt. Everest but the view to explore Mt. Everest is not worth it. However, Mount Everest can be viewed from the second day of the trek. To make Everest Base Camp Trek worth trekking we recommend trekkers hike to Kalapattar 5545 Meters (18192ft) from Gorakshep.

Views of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest from Kalapatthar is 360°, this will be a spellbound spot to explore all the Himalayas of the Everest region, making Mt. Everest stand just in front of you.

Q8. Do I need to trek Everest Base Camp to see Mt. Everest?

Mount Everest can be visible even from the nearby hills of the Kathmandu Valley. However, to have the best view is to trek all the way to Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu to Kathmandu in just 9 Days.

Another easy way to explore Mount Everest is to take a Helicopter Tour landing at the Base Camp of Mount Everest in just a couple of hours tour or a Mountain Flight from Kathmandu.
