The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC) is one of the most popular trekking routes in Nepal.

It is a conserved area called The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the unique biodiversity, the beautiful mountains, the beautiful scenery, panoramic views, and the unique multi-ethnic and multi-culture diversity of the people residing in the area makes the Annapurna Region the world’s most popular destinations with thousands of visitors every year from around the globe.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek mainly starts from the Pokhara, the city of lakes. This trek will lead us to one of the most deserved areas of Nepal to be, the ‘Region of Paradise’. The trail itself is myriad with the carnival atmosphere.

Annapurna Region being one of the myriad regions is home to hundreds of trekking trails in Nepal, with the different ethnic settlements and flora and fauna, this region holds the beauties of nature and culture leading us to Jomsom, Annapurna Base Camp, Fishtail Base Camp, Mustang (the last forbidden kingdom), Manang, Mardi Himal Base Camp, Tilicho Lake, etc and around the Annapurna circuit trek crossing the highest point at Thorong La Pass at 5416 meters above sea level.

In between the mountain lies the Kali Gandaki River Gorge, the deepest in the world. The trek also passes Muktinath (3880m), a holy site for both Hindus and Buddhists.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek also known as the ABC Trek or Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is one of the most famous and renowned trekking trails on earth. Each year thousands of trekkers enjoy this panoramic trail. Mt. Annapurna (8091m) which is the 10th highest mountain in the world had the first human step on the summit in 1950 AD led by the French expedition team Maurice Herzog lies in this trek.

Like other treks in the Annapurna region, Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins from Pokhara, the paradise of Nepal and famously known as the ‘city of lakes. This trek passes through cascading waterfalls, beautiful villages, rivers, suspension bridges, terraced farmlands, lush rhododendron forests, and hearth-touching mountain views before reaching the mighty Mt. Annapurna Base Camp.

Overall, we can say it's a 360-degree panoramic view and a research-oriented trek, as the journey starts from the hill towards mountain encountering nature along with the different ethnical people residing beneath the massif Himalayas.

This 10- day Annapurna Base Camp Trek and Tour is a trek as well as a tour two in one package. Useful Info

Best time to do Annapurna base camp trek

Spring and Autumn are the best seasons to travel in the Himalayas of Nepal, so is for Annapurna base camp. March to May is the spring season in Nepal so, during this season sky stays clear which provides an opportunity for good mountain views as well as during this season tree blossom such as rhododendron comes out which adds up beauty to the surrounding scenery.

September to November is the Autumn season in Nepal and even during this season sky remains clear with the deep blue sky which also provides a good view of the mountains. During this season, the climate and temperature remain temperate which is not so sweaty while trekking.

Above all, with a clear blue sky and a high range of Himalayan visibility, the Annapurna Base Camp trail will be easy to hike along with less snow to create any disturbance.

      Annapurna base camp trek route

There are different routes to Annapurna base camp, this can be arranged according to your holiday duration which is a time limit. There are a few starting points for the Annapurna base camp in which Nayapul is the most common.

Trekkers who want to do a little longer and explore another majestic part of the Annapurna region can start at Nayapul, Ghorepani, Tadapani, Chhomrong, Himalaya hotel, and to Annapurna base camp.

Trekkers with the short-time holidays can start from Nayapul and go straight through Jhinu Danda, Chhomrong, Himalaya, and to Annapurna base camp.

Moreover, there are other few options as well, this can be a couple of days longer but touching all the beautiful areas of the Annapurna region.

Annapurna base camp Permits and fees

Trekkers need two different permits for Annapurna Base Camp Trek, as the region is a conservation area; they are Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) entrance permit, which costs 2000 rupees for foreigners and 200 rupees for SAARC country citizens and the other permit is called "TIMS CARD" (Trekking Information Management System) which costs $10 USD per person for organized trekkers and $20 USD per person for independent trekkers.

These two permits are applicable in all the Annapurna region of Nepal and can be used once at the time of entry until you have completed the trek. So, trekkers need to fill the areas they are supposed to enter in the Annapurna region. The permits are non-transferable and cannot be re-used again.

      Accommodation during the high season.

Accommodation in Annapurna base camp trail is similar compared to other trekking region of Nepal, the most common is tea-house and lodge accommodation which is a room with a minimum of two beds but toilets and bathroom are outside the room.

During high season in this trek, you might have to share rooms with other trekkers as after Chhomrong there is a limited number of lodges in every place we stop for the night. So, you need to be prepared for that if you are doing teahouse trekking to Annapurna base camp.

Apart from this Annapurna region is one of the most popular regions as well with numerous different tea-houses and lodges, to speak the truth in terms of accommodation Annapurna region is far better than the other region of Nepal. Only the reason for the limited number of tea houses in high altitudes is due to conservation projects.

As the government restricts the unlawful competition of concrete construction of buildings to maintain the beauty of the region. This is mainly applicable where the altitude goes above 3000 meters.

      Short Keys to Know:-

      • Over -20-degree sleep bag and proper down jacket would be useful
      • Be sufficient with all the things that you need as you might not find them in the mountain while trekking.
      • You can refill your water bottle with cold water but you have to treat it with iodine pills or drops make sure you bring enough pills.
      • If you choose to buy bottled water that costs from 100 to 400 rupees depending on a high elevation so make sure you figure out your budget.
      • Most equipment you can buy or rent before the trek.
      • Take enough extra money in Nepal currency as the dollar devalues in the mountain.
      • WIFI, hot shower, and battery charging services are available if you pay.
      • In case you can’t walk there is a pony ride or helicopter service at your request.

      Amazing Mardi trek

3 years ago I did a Mardi trek with guide Kumar. He was very caring and attentive during the trek. The trail was full of snow and slippery, but Kumar held my hand and led us the way. Every evening after dinner he used to let us know about tomorrow's trek. He was informative and knew every name of the mountains.

A fantastic guide, an amazing Trek

WOW is all I can say about Ace. Udaya was an amazing guide and was perfect throughout the entire trek. He was friendly, super knowledgeable, and handled everything that I needed from gear to travel. They were always concerned about my comfort and seeing that a memorable trip was had by myself and my partner. I had a medical issue that caused him to both works into the night to get a resolution. Of course, being sick in a foreign country can be a scary ordeal, but it was handled professionally and worked out well.

I can say with certainty that they'll be at the top of my list for my next trip and I can say without reservation that I'd go with them again.

      Excellent!

I am not an expert on trekking but I love it. From my experience, if you have a plan to trek, the important is you have to find a good guide and travel agency you can trust. I am lucky I found both. So if you have a plan in mind to go to Nepal.. just try to contact them. I believe that you will imprese on their service. 5 trips in Nepal since 2017.. until now I am looking forward to going back to trek with them again 😊

      Absolutely Life Changing

I first toured Nepal in 2012 and was paired with a local guide named Udaya (Narayan) Thapa. Traveling as a young, lone female, I had my guard up when I first arrived. However, it was not necessary because Narayan was such an incredibly talented and supported guide that I left Nepal wanting more adventure and booked a second tour a year later!

EBC, or Everest Base Camp, was my first experience in the Himalayans. The culture, citizens, hospitality, and breathtaking views were more than I could take in at once. Yes, I chose to climb the most popular trek in the nation, but with that comes many positives: peace of mind that I'll meet like-minded people, that there will be some small amenities for me, that my friends and family back home have heard of it before, and that I could do some research. Go ahead and research all you want, but nothing prepares you for the views of watching a storm unfold below you.

Narayan and the sherpas he hired completely prepared me for each day. I knew how much water to drink, what foods I should eat (garlic soup!), what foods to avoid (unfortunately alcohol haha), and how much "mountain flat" terrain I would expect to traverse in a certain period of time. Narayan knew my limits and could accurately foresee when I needed to break and when I could push myself (basically never because that's not safe). He helped me with the ponding headaches too! At the end of the trek, he took some time out of his own day to show me where the mall was so I could decompress and have some food. We really did become friends.

I missed the mountains the moment I left. I missed the laughter, the language, and the views! The quiet from the (2/3 of the way up) to the top of the world. I went back. This time I brought two friends. I wired two thousand dollars over from Canada and trusted that Narayan would be there to get us at the airport, and of course, he was! He values his customers more than we value the experience of touring his majestic country.

The second time around we hiked around Annapurna. Walking the pass was at the height of our trek, and after days of going up, was surreal. Narayan said I would be taking long slow steps and he wasn't joking. My advice? Listen to your guide! He knows best.

Whatever tour you decide to book, you won't regret it. I've been wanting to return for almost ten years now, and haven't made it back. When you get there, say hi to Narayan for me :)
