My name is Kelly Dunwoody, and I am a co-founder and the marketing manager for “Discover Altitude,” a Nepalese- based Tour Company.
I first fell in love with Nepal in 2012, when I signed up for an Everest Base Camp Trek. I was alone, a young, female traveler, who did not speak the local language. I was told I was going to be met by my guide, “Udaya Thapa,” and that he would help me get acquainted.
As it stood, I was the only trekker who signed up for this particular trip. I had ample time walking next to Udaya (who his friends warmly referred to as Narayan), where we developed a friendship that lasted a decade.
After the trek, I told Narayan that I wanted to come back, but that I wanted to trek only with him. I trusted him; he made sure I was safe, translated unfamiliar conversations for me, taught me new card games, helped me to know the locals, and checked in with me all day. I never once felt uncertain about our partnership.
He invited me back, but because he didn’t have a company yet and had no reserve funds, I had to wire him $1500 from Canada to book my next trek. What a leap of faith in humanity!
I wired him the money ($3000 in total because I brought two friends on the second trek), bought a plane ticket, and flew to Nepal. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about sending that much money without a guarantee.
However, as soon as I landed in Kathmandu my fears were entirely gone, and I soared with adventure. I felt like I was at home. I walked the street of Thamel like I would a childhood neighborhood.
Over the years, Narayan has wanted to start his own company and he finally has!
Meanwhile, Narayan Met Kumar Lamsal another-Like minded man involved in adventure tourism for decades has deep knowledge of the religion, culture, and history of Nepal. They teamed up together and recruited Passionate and Knowledgeable trekking and Climbing guides along with dedicated and experienced staff.
We are the co-founders of Discover Altitude, working together to get this company noticed.
Discover Altitude may be a new company compared to others, but it is made up of decades of experienced professionals. We offer treks, tours, climbing excursions, luxury packages, and personalized itineraries
We ensure our porters and guides are insured and well cared for. It is a mandatory fee we charge to keep our employees safe.
We sell our adventure packages. Nepal is always on the list of top destinations for adventurers, safari lovers, or even relaxed holidays. We offer family-friendly, solo, or group tours. Our most popular treks are all linked to Everest Base Camp (EBC), but once foreigners meet Narayan and his team, they will return and try a more remote tour.
Discover Altitude stands above the rest of the companies in Nepal; it started with one man with a dream. His dream needs a gentle push into the online market for future success.
