  • Like other treks in the Annapurna region, Ghorepani Poon Hill Treks begins from Pokhara, the paradise of Nepal and famously known as the ‘city of the lake’. This trek passes through cascading waterfalls, beautiful villages, rivers, suspension bridges, terraced farmlands, lush rhododendron forests, and hearth-touching mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Fishtail, etc. Overall, we can say it's a 3600 panoramic view as the journey starts from the hill towards the mountain encountering nature along with the different ethnical people residing beneath the massif Himalayas.

  • Trekkers can trek Ghorepani Poon Hill according to their time and interest but the best time to accomplish the trek is February-May and August-January. June and July are regarded as the rainy season and December and January are winter with heavy snowfall making the trail a land of paradise with white snow-covered hills and mountains.
  • Trekking into the Ghorepani Poon Hill trail is far easy than to the other region, trekkers can stay in tea houses and lodges while trekking, hotels, and lodges provide hot showers and Wi-Fi which is payable but the mobile network is accessible in the entire Annapurna region, so trekkers can buy a sim card and use internet data pack during the entire trek.
  • Ghorepani Poon Hill trail is filled with natural beauty, diverse vegetation, and human settlement of different ethnic groups. Trekkers are always welcomed by locals with their warm gestures. Above all, due to its low altitude and easy-going into the mountains, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek can be accomplished by any age group and gender irrespective of their nationality.

TRIP TO POON HILL NEPAL

Well organized. The organizer is very flexible and always open to our request to reschedule our flights, travelling arrangement. Choices of hotel and food are good. Pickup from and to the airport are provided.

Teju and Chandra looked after me incredibly well

I booked a four-day trek with Discover Altitude but due to altitude sickness could only complete three days of it. The trip went ahead despite my being the only participant, which I really appreciated. Teju was an amazingly friendly and helpful guide and even carried my daypack for me as I was feeling faint. He also kindly rearranged the trip so I could cut it short and return to Pokhara early. Chandra was also a very helpful and friendly porter. Be warned that the hotel in Ghandruk is freezing so bring your own superwarm sleeping bag and hot water bottle like I did (nice and cosy wood fire in the lounge however!) Really appreciated the company being so flexible and helpful when I didn't feel well enough to do the four days - everyone is affected by altitude differently and I was sadly someone who couldn't handle it.

The best vacation, with the best views, with the friendliest people on earth

Through the agency Discover Altitude we chose:

PRIVATE LUXURY EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK WITH THE LUXURY LODGE IN THE MOUNTAIN AND HELI BACK

certainly our best choice, the organization was better than we expected, and we got more than we paid for, definitely 100%.
The agency works with the best guides and porters in the mountains, which is the most important thing, because if you have staff in the mountains who are local and know everyone on the way, it's a win, so you'll never get bad accommodation or food that could spoil your trip.

The entire service, from reception at the airport to the trek and city tour, to everything you want, the support is very good, you practically feel like you have a butler by your side 24 hours a day, amazing

Do not fall for other agencies that promise you much more, because what the Discover Altitude team can offer you is the maximum, for sure.

we will return and without a doubt only through the agency Discover Altitude Team.

Greetings to all and enjoy the Himalayan trek because it is divine

Your search for a trekking company can stop here!

I can’t say enough great things about Kumar and Santosh at Discover Altitude. They set my trip up with minimal notice, even made some custom changes and everything went perfectly. They have great connections for everything tourism in Nepal. If you want a guide to show you around Kathmandu-they’ve got you. If you want to go for a trek-it’s their bread and butter. If you want to go for an expedition at half the cost of western companies with guides whose experience will blow your mind-easy day. Whether you’re planning a trip for next year or next week they will take care of you like family. They took the time to have tea with me and discuss my trip from start to finish over a map, they held my luggage safely while I was in the mountains, and they checked in at possible friction points (like flights) to make sure everything was going well.

I’ve heard horror stories from backpackers who used other companies and there are a ton around here. It was overwhelming for me to pick one, but Discover Altitude was recommended to me so I figured I’d give them a try. This is now the second trip they planned for me. I also recommended them to some friends who did a luxury Everest view trip with them and had nothing but good things to say. You can roll the dice and try someone else, but if you want to take the safe bet and know that you’ll have an amazing trip at a competitive price there’s no other option.

Great experience!

Sherpa Tej and I trekked for 4 days through the Himalayas. Tracks were relatively easy, and the views were stunning. Tej is a very good guide and arranges beautiful guesthouses with tasty food. Highly recommend it.

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency.

I had the incredible opportunity to complete 4 different treks with Discover Altitude: Three Passes, ABC, Annapurna Circuit and Langtang. Each time, the experience exceeded my expectations! The owners, Kumar and Santosh, along with their guides are exceptionally professional, knowledgeable and attentive to every detail. Everything was very well planned for all treks, and I felt safe even at the highest altitudes, thanks to their friendly and supportive guides.

There are many agencies to choose from, and I visited many, but when I met Kumar and Santosh the quality of their personalities quickly became evident. They treated me as a friend they genuinely wanted to support, not just a client, caring only about the money. Even if I hadn’t signed up, they would have treated me the same, not as potential or lost business. This authenticity is why I chose them! This was the only agency where I had that gut feeling, which turned out to be correct. They always went the extra mile. Before each trek, they spent a lot of time going through all the details with me to ensure I had everything I needed and was ready to go. They also checked up on me along the way. During all these times, they truly became my friends!

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency. They are also very competitively priced for both solo and group trips! I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Mustang - Kagbeni, Muktinath 6-day tour

We chose a 6-day course that tours Kagbeni and Muktinath, the gateway to Mustang from Kathmandu. It takes 3 days to actually walk, so it's a safe course even for beginners.

Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (30-minute flight), then hike 3 hours to Kagbeni. Hike 5-6 hours to Muktinath. Return to Jomsom via a different route. Take a lunch break at Rupna on the way. Fly to Pokhara. Fly back to Kathmandu.

It was late May before the rainy season, but we were blessed with clear skies and were able to see the beautiful mountain ranges of Nilgiri and Annapurna. The desolate landscape of Mustang was very beautiful, and it was a very interesting experience to get a glimpse of the life of the villagers in Kagbeni.

It was quite hot during the daytime walks in late May. Short sleeves are fine. If you don't want to get sunburned, wear thin long sleeves. Since it gets cold in the mornings and evenings in Muktinath, I wore a light down jacket, but if you layer up a warm long sleeve jacket, you can wear a hiking jacket instead of a down jacket.

Our trekking guide, Amar, was very kind and not only guided us on hiking but also carefully explained the history and people's lives. (In English) He always took care to make the trek comfortable, and the walking pace was adjusted to suit our physical strength, so we were able to enjoy it without any strain.

Kumar handled advance reservations and questions, and he responded to emails very quickly. After arriving in Kathmandu, I visited the office and Kumar gave me a brief explanation of the schedule. In Kathmandu, Santosh handled my communications and accompanied me to the transfer between the hotel and the airport. Both of them were cheerful and kind.
During the tour, I asked to change my plan to stay in Pokhara for two nights after the trek (of course, the additional hotel fee was at my own expense), and I am grateful that he quickly and readily responded to my request, such as changing my flight on the return trip.

A short walk from Jomsom to Muktinath.

We had great dealings with Kumar and the team at Discover Altitude. Kumar was our initial contact, and Santosh was our day to day contact on-the-ground. Their communication was great, and everything went smoothly.

Before departing for Nepal, we emailed Kumar about what we had in mind, and he presented us with different options. We settled on a short trip from Jomsom to Muktinath - flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara and on to Jomsom the next day to commence our hike. (We took the same air-route in reverse on our way back.) In total, the trip was six or seven days, with three days hiking. (This worked out well due to our schedule, but next time we might spend a few more days walking.)

Our guide on the trip was Amar Magar. We really recommend him. (Ask for him by name!) He was thoughtful, organised, and provided clear information on what we were doing each day. His patience and pleasant manner made the trip really enjoyable.

The hike itself was good. The area from Jomsom to Kagbeni (where we stopped for the first night) was primarily along the road and the riverbed, and the scenery was primarily the dry and desolate scenery one might expect of the Mustang area. Kagbeni was a nice village to rest. (There are a number of tea houses, and an interesting temple where one of the monks showed us around.) The walk up to Muktinath the next day was a little bit tough - being a climb of about 1,000 meters. (Not 'technically' tough; more of a challenge due to low fitness levels!) After resting, we visited the Hindu pilgrimage site, which was quite an interesting experience as it attracts a lot of visitors. We stayed the night at a tea house in Muktinath, and then walked back to Jomsom via a different route, stopping at a village called Lupna on the way back. The route from Muktinath to Lupna was probably the highlight of our trip, with much more diverse terrain, including great alpine scenery, fantastic rocky cliffs and forests, and the picturesque village of Lupna itself, with a very old temple and some caves used for solitary retreats.

If you have limited time, then I would recommend the approach we took. It provides a glimpse of the Mustang region (without getting in to the Upper Mustang region, which requires more time and an expensive permit), and a taste of walking in the region. On our walk, we met a number of people who had walked the Annapurna Circuit, taking around two weeks. We might plan better and aim to do that next time!

In terms of practical considerations, noting it was mid-May, we found that we were able to walk in t-shirts and long pants. We carried a lot of warm clothing with us, but didn't need really it. (We were a bit cold briefly after arriving at Muktinath, but generally we didn't use our warm clothing. It would be smart to take something - but no need to take too much.) The bedding provided in the rooms was more than adequate, and we didn't need our own sleeping bags. (Taking a sleeping bag liner might suffice from a cleanliness perspective if this is a concern.)

FAQs

Q1. Where is Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek located/situated?

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is one of the very popular and short trekking trails that lies in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trail is rich with different vegetation and human settlement.

Above all, the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is suitable for all age groups and gender as the elevation is low because the highest altitude to step is 3210 meters at Poon Hill and the highest overnight hotel is Ghorepani which is 2860 meters.

Q2. How hard/difficult is to trek Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a short and easy trek below the Himalayas. It is an easy and relaxing trek with a view of beautiful landscapes, villages, farmland, forest, waterfalls, rivers, suspension bridges, and the mighty Himalayas.

Above all, this is a unique trekking trail through the diversity of culture and nature. Trekkers can trek for 5-6 hours every day to reach the camp. Moreover, the trails are clean with stony stairs uphill and flat clay trails.

Q3. How much does the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek cost?

Trekking into the Annapurna region which also includes the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is not as expensive as compared to the Everest trek but the important factor is the duration of the entire trek. The more the duration the price goes accordingly, but not the worrying price.

To know the price first, you need to confirm the number of days you are supposed to trek. The price of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek ranges between 500 USD to 1100 USD depending upon the number of days and also the facilities you would prefer while trekking along with the lodges/tea house, Wi-Fi, hot shower, etc. but the cheapest way to trek in any region of Nepal is joining a group, the more the number the less the price goes.

If you don’t want to join a big group for privacy, better to have at least two trekkers, this will minimize the cost required for your guide and porter also the mountain lodges/tea houses have two separate beds in every room, so trekkers need to share a room with someone else during the high trekking season.

Q4. Is Ghorepani Poon Hill trek dangerous?

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is one of the safest trekking trails in Nepal. As the country, Nepal is very safe to travel but tourists are always worried while traveling to new land this is very common but the ‘danger’ may occur while being a solo trekker because the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek lies in the Annapurna region of Nepal which is in itself a vast region covering hills, mountains and Himalayas and the wrong trail can lead one to different areas of the region.

So the best way to trek is to book a local government-authorized trekking agency accompanied by a local trekking guide or porter to assist with the trail and to communicate with the local people.

Q5. How long does Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek takes?

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a short trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal, the duration of the trek depends upon the starting point and which trail to follow.

Normally if trekkers start from Pokhara, a gateway to Ghorepani Poon Hill and also Annapurna region it will take 5 days to reach back the starting point Pokhara.

Q6. Is Ghorepani and Poon Hill two different trekking trails/routes?

Ghorepani and Poon Hill are the names of two different places in the Annapurna region of Nepal but the important point here is one cannot reach Poon Hill without going to Ghorepani and vice versa.

Ghorepani lies at an altitude of 2860 meter and is the overnight spot as well for trekkers and from Ghorepani trekkers hike for an hour uphill to reach Poon Hill which lies at 3210 meters early in the morning for the magnificent views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges of the Himalayas and the sunrise view.

So going to Ghorepani and skipping Poon Hill is somewhat having tea without sugar unless you have diabetes.

Q7. Where to stay while trekking in the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

Annapurna region is self-sufficient with numbers of hotels and lodges and Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is in lower altitude so trekkers can have multiple choices for their hotels to choose with varied cuisine to eat some hotels provide private attach- bathroom inside the room and wifi and hot shower all the way.

Q8. Can I/we do Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek on our own?

A big Yes. Nepal is a safe country to travel, trekkers can trek any region at their own but sometime problem arises when there are multiple trekking routes. When being a solo trekker into the mountains the trail may confuse because in the mountain human settlement are limited the higher we trek the less we encounter people.

So it is better suggested to trek with a local trekking agency that provides a well-experienced guide.

Q9. How are the food and accommodation facilities in Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a short trek as compared to another trekking trail, the region itself is a conserved area. There are numerous numbers of lodges and tea houses in the trek but the number is limited as the altitude increase.

Some tea houses provide attach toilet facilities as well but the lodges and tea houses are normal with two single beds in every room but some provide private attach- toilet as well, so if you are solo trekkers sometime you may need to share a room with other trekkers because pre-booking is very important during high season.

The lodges and tea houses provide good food mainly local vegetables are served but non-vegetarian items may be imported from the nearby city Pokhara which means it may not be very fresh. Other foods which include pizza, burgers along with Indian, Nepalese, Continental, Chinese, etc are normally served in the tea houses.

Q10. Can we find Wi-Fi and Hot Shower Facilities in the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is now modernized with the technology, trekkers can use Wi-Fi in all the lodges and tea houses, and also the hot shower is possible upon request but you may need to pay extra for using these.

It is better to have a local mobile sim card with an internet data pack, as the network is strong enough to use the internet but it depends upon the weather condition.

Q11. Can we charge our battery and electronic gadgets in the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

It is possible to charge all the electronic gadgets in the Annapurna region which also include Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, for a couple of starting days charging may be free, as the lower area is well sufficient with the electricity but as we trek higher lodges and tea houses use a solar panel for electricity.

So the higher you hike charging gadgets cost some money but charging is possible in every area, it is recommended to carry extra battery while trekking into Himalayas of Nepal.
