The 12-Day Everest Base Camp Trek package is affordable and budget-friendly to one of the paradises on earth to closely explore the nature and culture of the high Himalayas of the Everest Region.

The unique culture and customs of the Sherpa, their festivals and celebrations, visiting decades-old monasteries and gompa, Himalayan flora and fauna, and numerous high mountains, including the highest mountain on earth, Mt. Everest (8848.86M), will be your centre of attraction.

Are you planning a holiday? If so, why not spend some memorable time with friends, family, or relatives in the Himalayas of Nepal at an affordable price in a budget-friendly way?

To make your travel possible into the Himalayas of Nepal at an affordable cost, Discover Altitude has mastered new and unique trekking packages to one of the most desired destinations, the Everest region/Khumbu region of Nepal.

We understand that to have a dream and to accomplish it is somewhat difficult for many people. This might be due to long-distance travel, financial issues after a drastic airfare rise, or a limited budget.

To cope with this situation, Discover Altitude has come up with Budget Everest Trekking Packages of just 12 days with bed and breakfast (BB basis)  for interested groups and first-time trekkers at high altitudes. As the Nepal government has lifted its travel restrictions for foreign nationals and has reopened all the trekking trails to travellers, on arrival, visa and vaccination are not a problem anymore.

The 12-day Everest Base Camp Trek will provide you freedom with numerous choices, as the packages include domestic airfare two-way to and from Lukla, accommodation in the mountains on a BB Basis, required permits, all ground transportation to and from the domestic airport, and trekking guides throughout the trek etc.

This gives you the freedom to select food items from the main menu of the lodges and hotels. You are independent to spend money on LUNCH and DINNER according to your budget.

Your trek to Everest begins after landing at Lukla Airport, which itself is one of the most exciting airports in the Himalayan kingdom, situated at an altitude of 2,840 M/9,318 Ft. You will hike through the alpine forest filled with numerous rhododendron trees, snow-melted rivers, and streams, crossing over the suspension bridge.

Passing by suspension bridges decorated with praying flags to enter Sagarmatha National Conservation Area, which itself is the UNESCO-listed natural and cultural heritage site of Nepal.

After hiking for an hour, you will be at Namche Bazaar, the regional headquarters of the entire Everest region, and also the highest settlement area of the Sherpa community at an altitude of 3440 M/11,286 Ft.

Spending an extra day to explore the surrounding villages, gompas, and monasteries, and also to acclimatize yourselves to further ascend uphill, you will enter into the bare and dry deserted region of the high Himalayas. Ascending higher will bring you closer to the Himalayas with less vegetation.

This will make your visibility of the himalayas high and clear to explore the enchanting snow-capped Himalayas, which include Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Mt. Lhotse, and Mount Cho Oyu, Baruntse, Pumori, etc, are just a few to name. Apart from the Himalayas, you will be able to observe numerous wild Himalayan animals and birds.

Passing by Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche, you will reach Gorakshep, the last overnight camp at the highest altitude (5,364 M / 17,598 Ft), and then a short hike will be conducted on the same day to explore the Base of the Highest Mountain, which is Mt. Everest.

After spending a couple of hours at the base camp of Mt. Everest, you will descend back to Gorakshep for the overnight stay at your lodge.

On the very morning of the next day, you will hike to Kalapatthar for the astonishing view of the wide range of the Himalayas of the Everest Region, and the first rays of the sunlight falling upon the snow-crapped Himalayas will be one of the lifetime memories to remember.

As per your itinerary, descend back to Lukla in 3 days to take a short flight to Kathmandu, carrying lovely memories of the Himalayas and the unforgettable hospitality of the Sherpa people.

How does Discover Altitude Treks handle if the trip is delayed due to weather or unforeseen circumstances?

The weather in the Himalayas is always unpredictable, especially in the Everest region. We Discover Altitude Treks will offer a complimentary second attempt for the same trip if the original departure is delayed due to weather. If the Everest Trek is still not able to do or if you don't have sufficient days to do this trip, we will arrange an alternative yet equally amazing trip at no additional cost. The first will be to take a Helicopter ride from/to Kathmandu, and the second will be to take a road drive towards Lukla, but this will take an additional day to reach Lukla via road.

Useful Info

Which is the safe place to be after Post-Covid

There are multiple places where travellers can be after the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, to talk about the touring and trekking destination, Nepal with no doubt is one of the best countries for any foreign nationals.

There are multiple reasons to be in Nepal to spend your time with your friends, family, and/or relatives, which include its fascinating natural and cultural diversity, Himalayas, religion, heritage sites, hiking, jungle safari, trekking, etc.

Due to the global pandemic, Nepal closed its border for international travellers for almost 18 months to control the spread of COVID-19 and started to vaccinate its citizens in large volume, at the moment around 93% of its citizens have been vaccinated are above 18 years old and now government started to vaccinate citizen from 12-18 years.

With this fast-track effort to vaccinate citizens by the agents of the government, the number of Covid-affected patients is declining rapidly. Keeping all these in mind on the 29th of May 2023, the government of Nepal officially declared the end of all travel restrictions to foreign nationals.

Now travellers can visit Nepal at any time of the year and are not to be quarantined. Moreover, all foreign nationals will be granted with On-Arrival Visa at the Ports of Entry without Proof of Vaccination or PCR Negative Report

Isn’t this good news for adventure lovers, who want to explore the rich nature and culture of Nepal? Now, travellers can trek, hike or explore any part of Nepal without any limitations and quarantine.

Apart from this trekking in the mountains will always be fun and exciting with fewer crowds and more to explore without wearing masks in the lap of nature.

Is the trek to Everest Base Camp safe?

Yes, trekking into the Everest Region is very safe. Due to the popularity of Mt. Everest, wide ranges of the Himalayas, Sherpa culture, and customs, the entire Everest region is one of the most demanding trekking trails among adventure lovers.

Every year thousands of trekkers hike to the highest base camp on the earth to explore the hidden treasure of nature. With the demand of the trail and flow of trekkers, the domestic airport to Lukla has been renovated with multiple airlines operating early morning flights to Lukla and also local and federal government promoting the local Sherpa community to host lodges and tea houses to welcome foreign travellers.

Apart from all these, there are police checkpoints and military bases in the Everest region to check illegal activities and also to help trekkers in the times of natural calamities, avalanches, etc. so that they are safely rescued during an unpredictable emergency.

There are multiple notice boards to give detailed information about the trial and also a possible danger that might occur.

To welcome trekkers multiple lodges and tea houses exist and the staff is well-trained with numerous dishes of trekkers' choices. ATMs, Banks, Bars, Restaurants, Wi-Fi, Hospitals, Post office, etc also exist in multiple overnight spots. All these facilities make Everest Trek a safe and fabulous trail into the Himalayas.

Is Budget Trek to Everest worth trekking?

The first question that might arise here is why budget Everest trek at a reasonable price. This is mainly to give you freedom of choice for all your expenditure on the mountain.

Budget Everest Trek is a new concept of Discover Altitude and in a short period gained popularity with multiple trekkers preferring to select this program because it allows every individual trekker to select dishes of their choice, which may be of budget price or expenses.

Trekking into the Himalayas with a guide-specified food menu might be boring to many, but eating Dal-Bhat every day throughout the trek might not be your interest. So, to provide you freedom for all foodies, we give you freedom of selection throughout the trial.

Where to stay during the Short Everest Trek?

Some decades ago trekking into the Himalayas of Nepal was not an easy thing to do mainly during the peak trekking season. This was due to limited numbers of lodges and tea houses, as during high trekking season many trekkers were not able to find room to stay.

Now, this is history, there are a sufficient amount of Tea houses and lodges throughout the Everest Trek. Trekkers will have multiple choices of rooms and lodges as well.

Apart from this, in Lukla and Namche Bazaar, there are superb hotels with attach-bathroom facilities along with different restaurants and bars with live music to entertain travellers. Along with ATMs, hospitals, Banks, etc. many tea houses and lodges, restaurants, and bars do accept credit cards as well.

So, nothing to worry about where to stay and the possibility of the scarcity of room.

Amazing EBC trek

I did a private EBC trek visiting Kala Patthar and Ama Dablam base camp with Discover Altitude in November 2024. The trip was fantastic and my guide Teju was amazing! Kumar and Santosh (owner of the agency and his colleague) are super friendly, they greet you at the airport and drop you off when you’re leaving, you get a detailed trip briefing before you leave. My guide Teju was very helpful and knowledgeable, he does the best practices about acclimating to altitude and keeping his clients healthy with constant reminders about proper clothing and using your buff to avoid dust. We got back to Kathmandu without the infamous Khumbu cough! Booking the private trek was a great option for me as I could customize my itinerary any way I wanted and go at the pace that worked for me.
I very highly recommend Discover Altitude, they’re an amazing team and reliable and knowledgeable partners in Nepal!

Amazing EBC and Kalapatthar Trek Experience with Discover Altitude

I recently completed the Everest Base Trek with Kalapatthar, guided by Discover Altitude, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. As a solo traveler, I felt well-supported and safe throughout the entire journey. Santosh, my guide, was exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The trek was challenging but incredibly rewarding, and the team’s professionalism made it even more memorable.
Highly recommend Discover Altitude for anyone looking to trek in Nepal

Your search for a trekking company can stop here!

I can’t say enough great things about Kumar and Santosh at Discover Altitude. They set my trip up with minimal notice, even made some custom changes and everything went perfectly. They have great connections for everything tourism in Nepal. If you want a guide to show you around Kathmandu-they’ve got you. If you want to go for a trek-it’s their bread and butter. If you want to go for an expedition at half the cost of western companies with guides whose experience will blow your mind-easy day. Whether you’re planning a trip for next year or next week they will take care of you like family. They took the time to have tea with me and discuss my trip from start to finish over a map, they held my luggage safely while I was in the mountains, and they checked in at possible friction points (like flights) to make sure everything was going well.

I’ve heard horror stories from backpackers who used other companies and there are a ton around here. It was overwhelming for me to pick one, but Discover Altitude was recommended to me so I figured I’d give them a try. This is now the second trip they planned for me. I also recommended them to some friends who did a luxury Everest view trip with them and had nothing but good things to say. You can roll the dice and try someone else, but if you want to take the safe bet and know that you’ll have an amazing trip at a competitive price there’s no other option.

Great EBC trip

With my friend, we did the Everest Base Camp 9-day trail. The experience was great, though quite intense - but we were well prepared. We saw all the peaks on the way and stayed in nice places with good views and rooms. The views on the way are really great - Amadablan, Everest, Lhotse...
It was a very mind-refreshing and inspiring trip - thanks to Rajesh, our guide, and Bala, our porter!

Everest Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp trek was an amazing experience! My guide, Bhakta, was excellent throughout the journey. He was very informative about the region. He allowed me to set my pace and lead the trek. He was always encouraging, even when the trek got challenging. I have enjoyed his company and learned a great deal about trekking in high altitude. I am grateful to have had such a wonderful human being as my sherpa. I highly recommend him as a guide.

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency.

I had the incredible opportunity to complete 4 different treks with Discover Altitude: Three Passes, ABC, Annapurna Circuit and Langtang. Each time, the experience exceeded my expectations! The owners, Kumar and Santosh, along with their guides are exceptionally professional, knowledgeable and attentive to every detail. Everything was very well planned for all treks, and I felt safe even at the highest altitudes, thanks to their friendly and supportive guides.

There are many agencies to choose from, and I visited many, but when I met Kumar and Santosh the quality of their personalities quickly became evident. They treated me as a friend they genuinely wanted to support, not just a client, caring only about the money. Even if I hadn’t signed up, they would have treated me the same, not as potential or lost business. This authenticity is why I chose them! This was the only agency where I had that gut feeling, which turned out to be correct. They always went the extra mile. Before each trek, they spent a lot of time going through all the details with me to ensure I had everything I needed and was ready to go. They also checked up on me along the way. During all these times, they truly became my friends!

If you want to experience true, kind Nepali hospitality and a great trek, don’t look for another agency. They are also very competitively priced for both solo and group trips! I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Mustang - Kagbeni, Muktinath 6-day tour

We chose a 6-day course that tours Kagbeni and Muktinath, the gateway to Mustang from Kathmandu. It takes 3 days to actually walk, so it's a safe course even for beginners.

Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (30-minute flight), then hike 3 hours to Kagbeni. Hike 5-6 hours to Muktinath. Return to Jomsom via a different route. Take a lunch break at Rupna on the way. Fly to Pokhara. Fly back to Kathmandu.

It was late May before the rainy season, but we were blessed with clear skies and were able to see the beautiful mountain ranges of Nilgiri and Annapurna. The desolate landscape of Mustang was very beautiful, and it was a very interesting experience to get a glimpse of the life of the villagers in Kagbeni.

It was quite hot during the daytime walks in late May. Short sleeves are fine. If you don't want to get sunburned, wear thin long sleeves. Since it gets cold in the mornings and evenings in Muktinath, I wore a light down jacket, but if you layer up a warm long sleeve jacket, you can wear a hiking jacket instead of a down jacket.

Our trekking guide, Amar, was very kind and not only guided us on hiking but also carefully explained the history and people's lives. (In English) He always took care to make the trek comfortable, and the walking pace was adjusted to suit our physical strength, so we were able to enjoy it without any strain.

Kumar handled advance reservations and questions, and he responded to emails very quickly. After arriving in Kathmandu, I visited the office and Kumar gave me a brief explanation of the schedule. In Kathmandu, Santosh handled my communications and accompanied me to the transfer between the hotel and the airport. Both of them were cheerful and kind.
During the tour, I asked to change my plan to stay in Pokhara for two nights after the trek (of course, the additional hotel fee was at my own expense), and I am grateful that he quickly and readily responded to my request, such as changing my flight on the return trip.

FAQs

Q1. How hard is it to trek base camp?

Trekking to Mt. Everest Base Camp is neither too hard nor too easy. It is a moderate hike with a steady-going uphill into the Himalayas with some acclimatization days. It takes 8 days to reach the base camp from the main city of Kathmandu with 2 extra days to acclimatize.

Q2. Do we need special training for EBC Trek?

If trekkers are physically fit for 5-7 hours of hike every day, we don’t need any prior training for the base camp trek. Physical exercise like swimming, jogging, hiking, etc will definitely help to increase stamina for the base camp trek.

Q3. Is Wi-Fi available in EBC Trek?

Yes, Wifi is available in major areas of the base camp trek but in some areas, we won’t be able to find Wifi, mainly in the high camp areas. Trekkers can use mobile data to use the internet and sim cards are easily available.

Q4. Do we have internet access in EBC Trek?

Wifi is available in many areas, some lodges provide free Wifi and some charge nominal fees. As we ascend higher Wifi is not possible but we can use mobile data to operate internet access.

Q5. How are foods in EBC Trek?

Foods in the base camp trek are hygienic with multiple choices from the menu. Food varies from Nepali to Indian to Continental to Chinese to Italian etc. trekkers can choose foods according to their interests and budget

Q6. Can we drink normal water during EBC trek?

Drinking normal water is not recommended in the EBC trek, but local guides and porters do. It depends upon trekkers' immune power to digest the snow-melted water. So, to get rid of any contaminated water diseases it will be best to use water purifying tablets to purify water before drinking.
