Nagarkot trek offers a spectacular view of Kathmandu Valley and stunning views of the mighty Himalayas throughout the trail. Shivapuri National Park is a protected area, so different army checkpoints exist to maintain its conservation project. It is also one of the religious heritage areas for both Hindu and Buddhist followers, as different hermitages from different periods came here for meditation, and among them ‘SHIVAPURI BABA’ is one of them. Above all, this conservation area is the source of the Bagmati and Bisnumati Rivers of Nepal, a highly sacred river.
Furthermore, different subtropical hardwoods, pine, oak, rhododendron, etc are grown and the park is blessed with an abundance of different species of butterflies and birds. Shivapuri is also a popular destination for Bird Watching and in terms of wildlife sloth bears, jungle cats, monkeys, leopards, deer, etc can be seen. So to protect all these army checkpoints keep their eyes on visitors’ records.
The trek will lead you to Nagarkot, a popular tourist destination for the sunrise and sunset view and also for the majestic view of the Himalayas. Spensding a night in Nagarkot Hill Station, then your hike descends towards Changunaraya, a village situated towards Bhaktapur, which is also a World Heritage Site with the popular Changunarayan Temple.
The trek program ends by driving from Changunarayan towards the medieval city of Bhaktapur for a day tour (Optional) and finally ends with an hour's drive to Kathmandu, the main city.
