Saribung pass trek is one of the remote regions which lies in the upper region of Mustang and northeast of Manang district in the mid-western part of Nepal. Saribung pass trek was only introduced in 2006 which goes through the upper mustang region and Nar-Phu region which were once a forbidden region.
Saribung pass trek features unspoiled landscapes, ancient monasteries, snow-capped mountains, stunning cliffs terrain, and untouched Tibetan culture. this trek also rewards you with the view of the three highest mountains in the world such as the 10th highest mount Annapurna I(8091m), the 7th highest mount Dhaulagiri(8167m), and 8th highest mount Manaslu(8163m) along with the Damodar Himal and the other mountains.
This physically challenging trek skirts around the Damodar Himalayan range which are situated north of Annapurna massifs. This trek provides an opportunity to learn about the pre- Buddhist religion which is also known as the Bonpo religion.
The trek begins with taking a flight to Jomsom airstrip then starts off walking up north towards the Kaligandaki valley passing several ancient villages along the trails such as Kagbeni, Chele, Ghiling, and Tsarang before reaching the kingdom of Lo-Manthang.
Lo-Manthang was once a forbidden kingdom and it was separated from the outside world until 1992. So, being in upper mustang you get to visit ancient castles, caves, and monasteries. Leaving upper mustang our trek continues towards the east to Yara, Luri, Ghuma Thanthi, Namta Khola before the Saribung base camp.
Leaving the base camp, the adventurous day of the trek goes over the Saribung pass(6042m) which is the highest point of the trek then descends to Nagoru and to Phu village which is another forbidden valley of this trek. Trek continues down to Meta and to koto from where we meet up the famous Annapurna circuit trail.
